Insect protein for a more eco-friendly future

Insects, a natural part of most animal diets, are recognized by scientists as an alternative solution to the food crises

Over half of consumed seafood globally comes from fish farms.

Aquaculture’s reliance on fishmeal has led to overfishing, jeopardizing human food security and aquatic ecosystems. The use of insect protein can offer a sustainable and more eco-friendly alternative, significantly reducing our reliance on fishmeal.

Black Soldier Fly, an efficient up-cycler

Black Soldier Fly converts low-value by-products into highly nutritious, functional ingredients while having very low space, land, and water requirements.

This process results in a lower carbon footprint than conventional animal and plant nutrition production while preserving our Earth’s biodiversity.

Sustainable
Development Goals

At Entobel, we recognize that a healthy and thriving ecosystem is fundamental to the sustainability of all civilizations and economies. That’s why we are dedicated to operating in a way that respects the sustainable goals set by the United Nations and actively incorporates them into our daily practices.

ZERO HUNGER

Alternative proteins will be needed to feed the growing population.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION
AND PRODUCTION

Entobel upgrades low-value by-products and agricultural side streams to high-value proteins and oil.

LIFE BELOW WATER

H-Meal helps reduce the reliance on wild fish for fish meal production, with each kg of H-Meal saving 4 kg of wild fish.

LIFE ON LAND

Insect meal reduces the demand for soybeans, which results in lower land use and less deforestation.

climate action

Black Soldier Fly larvae efficiently process wet waste streams which reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with drying substrates. Our factories are strategically positioned near our input producers, minimizing GHG emissions from transportation.

industry, innovation and infrastructure

Entobel designs its factories to promote sustainable industrialization, including leveraging technology and automation to enhance productivity.

decent work and economic growth

Entobel’s facilities also serve as an economic and community anchor creating over 200 jobs with the new factory and providing training for our workers

affordable and clean energy

Entobel implements innovative practices to enhance electricity efficiency (exploring solar panels, renewable energy solutions, and obtaining renewable energy certificates (RECs) from other projects in Vietnam to offset remaining electricity-related emissions).

Life Cycle Assessment

H-Meal has a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional protein sources

We performed an LCA on our process in cooperation with Blonk Consultants. Thanks to our strategic location in the tropics, and the availability of local by-products, our insect meal outbeats conventional protein sources in terms of CO₂ emissions, and land and water use.

More info about our LCA is available on request.

Dedicated to advancing
sustainable practices

Entobel is continuously testing new low-value substrates to improve economics and sustainability. With technological advances and scale, the carbon footprint of H-Meal will reduce even further.
