H-MEAL

H-Meal is a powder made from dried and defatted insect larvae (Black Soldier Fly Larvae), also known as Hermetia illucens, and constitute a high quality protein meal guaranteed to be 100% natural with no chemical added. 

It offers an healthy and sustainable alternative to traditional animal feed such as fishmeal, with great nutritional values and less impact on the environment.

It can be used to create flours, and is a prime feed for the farming and aquaculture industries, bringing necessary proteins, fats and fibers to  animals such as poultry, swine, fish, seafood, but also domestic pets.

Proteins

The Black Soldier Fly Larvae contain up to 43 percent of protein, way more than any other plant- and animal-based food.

Fat

Eleven fatty acids are detected in Black Soldier Flies Larvae, making it superior to its vegetable counterparts and similar to fish meal: Lauric, Myristic, Palmitic, Stearic, Arachidic, Palmitoleic, Oleic, Linoleic, g-Linolenic, Arachidonic, Eicosapentaenoic. 

Fiber

BSFL are also rich in fibers with prebiotic effects. It feeds and nourishes the good bacteria that exist naturally in the guts of living creatures, while helping to suppress the bad bacteria.

Minerals

BSFL-based products are a goldmine of minerals, containing: Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron, and more.

H-Meal?

Poultry

H Meal fits perfectly into the poultry diet, instead of more traditional sources of protein such as soy. This can represent 10 to 15% of the food consumed by roosters and chickens, a more natural diet eliminating the need of soy. 

Pigs

Soy and fish are an unnatural diet for farm animals, contrary to insects such as the BSFL. Our insect meals have been found to be suitable ingredients in growing pigs diets, being especially valuable for its amino-acid, lipid, and calcium. 

Pets

Insect proteins from Black Soldier Fly Larvae contain all essential amino acids that carnivores like dogs need, as well as calcium, iron, and B-complex vitamins. H-Meal can constitute a base for treats for your domestic animal. 

Exotics

Our H-Meal is also suitable to the use of zoos to feed specialized and endangered insectivores, such as lizards and reptiles.

Fish

The larvaes used in fish food constitute a sustainable substitute for fishmeal and vegetable oils.​ As such, the EU legislation permits the use of processed animal protein (PAP) from insects in aquaculture since 2017. Studies have shown that fish raised on black soldier fly meals grow as fast as those raised on a traditional fishmeal diet, with 0 negative effects on the end-consumer.

Advantages

Our insect meals can easily be mixed with other feed components, such as ground grains and soy. 

Insects meals are nutritionally superior than traditional sources of protein in feed (5% higher in protein than soy meal for example). Moreover, they contains chitin, which acts as a probiotic, contributing to a healthy immune system.

The use of insects for animal meals tremendously reduces the ecological and economic footprint of feed, contributing to more sustainable animal husbandry systems. It takes only 1 acre of Black Soldier Fly Larvae SFL to grow the same amount of protein as 3,000 acres of cattle and 130 acres of soybeans! Moreover, compared to beef farming, farming fly larvae produces 25 times less greenhouse emissions per kilogram, and just over 20 times less water per litre.

It leads to lower greenhouse gas emissions than other feed productions, and recycle organic waste.
